FAQ: Back Massage for Pain Relief

Is this a relaxation massage or a deep tissue treatment?

We specialize exclusively in pain relief and therapeutic massage, not “fluff” or standard spa relaxation routines. While our treatments are relaxing because they relieve tension, our primary goal is to identify and treat the root cause of your back pain using focused techniques like Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular Therapy, and Trigger Point Release.

Can you help with chronic back conditions like sciatica or lower back spasms?

Yes. We don’t use “cookie-cutter” full-body routines. Your therapist will assess your specific condition—whether it’s sciatica, lower back spasms, or stiffness from injury—and create a customized protocol to target those specific muscles and inflammation points.

How many sessions will I need to feel relief?

Many clients feel significant relief after just one session. However, for chronic back pain that has built up over months or years, a series of treatments may be necessary to retrain the muscles and provide lasting results. We will discuss a realistic treatment plan with you during your first visit.

Do you accept insurance for medical back massage?

We operate as a self-pay clinic to ensure we can provide the highest quality of care without insurance limitations. However, we can provide you with a receipt that you may submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement depending on your plan.

What should I wear for a back pain massage?

Your comfort is our priority. Most clients disrobe to their comfort level to allow the therapist to effectively work on the back, glutes, and shoulders. You will be properly draped with a sheet or towel at all times, and only the specific area being worked on will be exposed.

Can a massage really fix lower back pain that radiates into my hip?

Often, what feels like a spinal issue is actually a muscular imbalance. Chronic lower back pain is frequently caused by tight glutes or a compressed piriformis muscle pulling on the lumbar spine. Our Clearwater specialists use neuromuscular therapy to release these specific muscles, correcting the pelvic tilt that often causes that “stuck” feeling in your lower back and hips.

Why does my mid-back hurt even when I'm just sitting at my desk?

Desk work often leads to “Upper Cross Syndrome,” where your latissimus dorsi (lats) and chest muscles become overactive and tight, pulling your shoulders forward. This creates a constant, painful stretch on your mid-back muscles. By targeting the lats and surrounding connective tissue, we address the root cause of the tension rather than just rubbing the spot that hurts.
